Juno Movie Quotes

The highly anticipated film Juno has finally arrived to audiences everywhere and it has definitely delivered (pardon the puns). Canadian native Ellen Page who hails from Halifax NS plays the lead role of Juno MacGuff a smart, witty 16 year old girl who begins the movie by finding out as a store clerk poignantly puts, her “eggo is preggo.” Although Juno first opts for “a speedy abortion,” she decides to have her baby but give it up for adoption to Vanessa and Mark Loring a seemly perfect couple she finds in the PennySaver played by Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman.

Juno’s decision to carry her baby to term definitely lends itself to complicated situations and emotions. Her relationship with Paulie Bleeker the father of her baby, wonderfully played by Michael Cera, is in an uncertain state even though they both oblivious have deep feelings for one another. Bleeker is an awkward, quiet teenager who is addicted to orange tictacs and is also a very unlikely baby daddy. Although Juno seems ready to give away her and Bleeker’s baby without a second thought, proclaiming after first meeting the Lorings, “if I could just have the thing and give it to you now, I totally would,” she becomes overly interested in both perspective parents and eventually finds herself unintentionally entangled in their marital angst.

Juno is not only contagiously funny and enjoyably quotable (just watch the trailer), it also allows the characters to have a level a depth that makes the movie more sincere than 2007’s summer smash comedy also dealing with unplanned pregnancy Knocked Up. Ellen Page’s performance is perfection as she is able to deliver both comedic genius and show the painstaking emotion that any pregnant teenager would experience. Juno may be sarcastic, decisive and entertaining, but she is also uncertain, afraid and just a kid. Page’s ability to show the duplicity of Juno’s character undeniably elevates the movie and has won her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. Juno is also nominated for two more Golden Globes for Best Movie Musical or Comedy and Best Screenplay. All the nominations are well deserved and hopefully point to more nominations in the future when Oscar time rolls around.

All in all Juno is a terrific and smart movie that leaves the audience with fun lines like, “honest to blog?” It also imparts a warm feeling with the comedic ambiance and the dramatic aspects give you something to think about for more than just your ten second trot out the theatre doors. In fact you will probably be looking forward to when you can buy it on DVD and make it part of your movie library. So if you are looking to take in a movie this weekend and you’re thinking either Juno or Sweeney Todd, the undeniable choice is Juno. You’ll be laughing, tearing up and praising it to everyone within earshot.
